Initial arthropod baseline
Each listed arthropod order or composite target group begins with at least 1,000 retained, quality-filtered COI sequences when NCBI can supply them. Shortfalls remain explicit.
Reference-panel contract
Full order alignments are the general evidence. Study centroids are named exceptions.
The atlas never silently reuses a convenient reference panel for every primer. Each result identifies the sequences actually scored.

Append-only monthly growth
The next target is ceiling(previous retained × 1.01). Only unseen accessions are appended; established panels are not replaced by new random samples.

Scoring denominator
General primers are evaluated against every retained sequence in the full reference-coordinate alignment. Centroid clustering may support previews, never the production denominator.
Named exception
BeePrime keeps the Gurten et al. author centroids as study-specific evidence.
That panel supports the publication-linked bee drill-down. It does not become a universal reference for Spidprey, NoPlant, ANML, or unrelated primer pairs.
Fungal ITS pilot
UNITE compiles; original publications receive the primer citation.
The pilot exposes every sequence-valid imported primer record, target, limitation, and original reference. UNITE remains compilation provenance. Unpublished or missing references are labelled rather than converted into a generic publication.
